Anonymous asked: I'm a bit confused why people got so outraged by your claim that Dada was "not art". Dada often tried to distance itself from that label and everything else. It was a thing of contradictions, as it's leader, Hugo Ball, once commented "Dada is anti-Dada". My impression was that your comment was parodying this idea, alluding to the attributes of the movement. People need to calm down a bit.
the dada artists themselves claimed that what they were doing wasn’t necessarily art, and strove for people to get enraged and upset at the anti-art movement that they started
people on tumblr are just really big fans of dada i guess

tascenda asked: First off, I love this blog! After going through several rounds of art history classes this never fails to make me smile.
Perhaps you could do one referencing all those paintings of baby Jesus looking like old men during the medieval times?
those are the most terrifying things ever
i’ll give it a try!

i respect you guys and i understand that calling dadaism “not art” was immature and wrong. i personally do not like it, but that doesn’t mean that i have a say to disregard its importance.
so there we are, moving on.
sippingonpussyjuice asked: Oh my. Can we get some Bernini? Or oh, what about some Rubens!

Anonymous asked: pretty much dying over the epicness that is art history arachnid. whenever i tell someone i'm studying art history, they inevitably ask me who my favourite artist is.. my reply is usually an artist they've never heard of, and when i ask them the same question, their response is undoubtedly warhol, monet, or picasso. THERE'S OTHER ARTISTS YOU KNOW.
those artists do get a lot of press, and you certainly don’t see caravaggio emblazoned on sketchbooks and umbrellas (if i did i would buy them oops)
glad you appreciate my work c:
